Mania is also known as manic syndrome, is a state of abnormally elevated arousal, affect and energy level. It is also a state of heightened overall activation with enhanced affective expression together with liability of affect. Mania is an affective disorder characterized by elation of mood, rapid thought and speech, extreme over-activity and irresponsible behaviour.

Clinical Manifestation

Medical Management
1. Neuroleptic drugs
2. Hypnotic or sedative drugs
3. Lithium salt
Nursing Management
1. Admit patient into ward
2. Encourage adequate bed rest
3. Psychological approach
4. Give adequate Physical care
5. Give Occupational and Recreational therapy
Nursing diagnosis
1. Inflated self-esteem related to disease condition evidence by grandiose delusion
2. Impaired social communication related to flight of ideas evidenced by talkativeness
