PERSONALITY DISORDER
A personality disorder is a type of mental disorder in which you have a rigid and unhealthy pattern of thinking, functioning and behaving.
A person with a personalities disorder has trouble perceiving and relating to situations and people.
In some cases, you may not realize that you have a personality disorder because your way of thinking and behaving seems natural to you.
INCIDENCE: personality disorder usually begins in  teenage years or early adulthood.

TYPES OF PERSONALITY DISORDER
1. Paranoid personality disorder
2. Schizoid personality disorder
3. Dissocial personality disorder
4. Histrionic personality disorder
5. Gender identity disorders

AETIOLOGY
1. Environmental factors
2. Genetic factor
Risk Factors
1. Abusive, unstable or chaotic family life during childhood
2. Family history of mental disorder or other mental illness
3. Variation in brain chemistry and structure

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
1. Pervasive distrust and Suspicion of others and their motives
2. Hesitancy to confide in others due to unreasonable fear that others will use the information against them
3. Angry or hostile reaction to perceived slights or insults
4. Inability to take pleasure in most activities
5. Appearance of being cold or indifferent to others
6. Flat emotions or inappropriate emotional responses
7. Social anxiety and a lack of or discomfort with close relationships
8. Perception of innocent remarks or nonthreatening situations as personal insults or attacks.

DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION
1. Physical examination
2. Psychiatric evaluation
3. Diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
The following drugs can be used for personality disorder;
1. Antidepressants.
2. Mood stabilizer
3. Antipsychotic drugs
4. Anti-anxiety medications

NURSING MANAGEMENT
1. Admission for proper examination and observation
2. Counseling
3. Psychotherapy
4. Occupational therapy

COMPLICATIONS
Personality disorder can significantly disrupt the lives of both the affected person and those who care about that person.
It may cause problems in relationship, work or school and can lead to social isolation or alcohol or drug abuse.
