EATING DISORDER
An eating disorder is a mental disorder defined by abnormal eating habits that negatively affect a person's physical or mental health. Anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse are common among people with eating disorders

AETIOLOGY OF EATING DISORDER
The cause of eating is not clear
Risk factors include
1. Both biology and environmental factors appear to play a role in eating disorder.
2. Cultural idealization of thinness is believed to contribute
3. Those that have experienced sexual abuse
NB: Eating disorders affect about 12 percent of dancers

TYPES OF EATING DISORDERS
1. Binge eating disorder where people eat a large amount in a short period of time
2. Anorexia nervosa where people eat very little and thus have a low body weight
3. Bulima nervosa where people eat a lot and then try to rid themselves of the food
4. Pica where people eat non-food items
5. Rumination disorder where people regurgitate
6. Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder where people have lack of interest in food. 

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF EATING DISORDERS
Antidepressants drugs are used. Which include;
1. Imipramine
2. Prozac
3. Zoloft

NURSING MANAGEMENT*
1. Admission: for proper examination and observation
2. Give health counselling on food
3. Encourage proper diet
4. Encourage more exercise
